An Adult Story

"I can't bring myself to sign up for one more dating site!" Krista complained to her friend, Alicia, who was busy whipping up margaritas in the blender. "Oh come on, Kris," Alicia moaned, "we're just having some fun." "I know, I know," Krista sighed, "but I don't need even faceless men to break my heart." "Well, they aren't faceless - they DO have profile pictures," Alicia giggled. "Don't be smart," Krista giggled, as she accept her drink. "All right," she agreed, "let's hit dating site number four!"

Krista knew that Alicia meant well. She had admitted to being worried about Krista when her first love had broken her heart. He had concocted the most wonderful proposal, involving so many of their family and friends, and then about six months into the engagement, Krista had caught him cheating with a girl from his office. She had been devastated, naturally, and the wedding was called off. Alicia had been there for Krista through it all. She worried that Krista wasn't getting out and socializing enough and, when she saw an on-line ad for a dating site, she thought maybe that would be a way to ease her friend back into the world of the living.

The two women laughed and joked as they clicked through one dating site after another. "Oh he's a looker! You just can't ignore the black socks and the sandals!" one would say and the other would double over in a fit of giggles. The margaritas certainly contributed well to their sense of humor. Then, they happened upon one website that seemed to have locals from their area. "Oh now THIS looks promising, Kris!" Alicia exclaimed. "You could probably find someone to join you down at the pub!" "After all the margaritas, the pub is not on my list tonight," Krista moaned. "Well, right then, let's create a profile anyway." Krista looked at her friend, who wanted to do nothing more than help, and she just grinned. "Fine... we'll get to work."

Together, they crafted a lovely profile and included the same photo they'd been using all evening. It was a nice shot of Krista that Alicia had taken at the beach a couple of weeks earlier. "From the neck up!" Krista had protested as they had cropped and readied the photo. "Oh fine, you old complainer,"Alicia had mocked. Krista was quite a stunning woman and Alicia wished she would show off just a little bit more. Then again, she knew that would never happen and, in a way, she was jealous. Krista had brains and not just beauty. Someday, she'd meet a man that she clicked with on all levels. A man that treated her the way she deserved to be treated. Looking at her best friend with true admiration, Alicia lifted her glass in a toast and swallowed another sip of margarita. In her mind, her toast was simple... "To you, my friend, to you... I wish all the happiness in the world... and I'm going to do my best to help you find it."
